The Province of British Columbia offers Homeowner Grants that assist to reduce the amount of property taxes you pay for your original home. This grant is applied toward the current year’s property tax.

If you are eligible for a Home-owner Grant, you’ll be able to apply online with BC Province after receiving your property tax notice in May.

However, from 2021 onwards, municipalities will not accept retrospective or current-year homeowner grant applications.

Step 5: You will need to submit additional required documents to support your application.

Who is eligible for the BC homeowners grant?

Only one eligible owner may be able to claim a grant for a property each year.

The grant amount may be higher for a homeowner who qualifies as a senior, veteran, or disabled person. And the homeowner who fulfills these qualifications should be the one who applies to get the higher grant amount for that residence.

Anyone can apply on your behalf with your permission. However, if you pay your property taxes through your financial institution, your financial institution will not apply for your homeowner’s grant.
